High School recommendations - 2 to 3 years of laboratory science, including biology and chemistry; 3 to 4 years English; 1 year algebra and 1 year geometry with grade averages of C or better in each of these high school courses.
Accreditation Information
To become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), there are a number of pathways that can be followed. Establishing an advising relationship with the Nutrition & Dietetics advisor as early as possible in a college career is vital to ensure appropriate course sequencing and planning for the transfer institution of the student's choice. All RDN programs must meet the requirements for accreditation of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' credentialing body the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
Additional Program Information
The student is encouraged, along with assistance from the Nutrition & Dietetics advisor, to select electives that will provide additional expertise in math, biology, chemistry, business, and economics. (Only transferable courses numbered 110 or higher will apply towards the 60 credit hours graduation degree requirements.)
For those interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), this area of study will begin to provide the academic foundation required to fulfill a master’s degree and dietetic internship from an accredited dietetics program prior to taking the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s dietetic registration exam. Internships are highly competitive and often require the student to maintain an excellent grade point average for consideration of acceptance.
